You work closely with someone, you have all the inside jokes, and then one day you catch feelings for that person. It happens to a lot of people. Just how many end up trying to be in a relationship with someone they work with?
It's not just in the US either. This happens everywhere. 1 in 3 Canadian employees have dated a colleague. Younger workers aged 18 to 34 reported the highest rates at 41%.Even they figured it out.
Similar trends appear in the U.S. and U.K., where 18% of partnered respondents met their significant other at work.
People defend hooking up at work for sure. They say it can boost job satisfaction and teamwork, they may also cause issues like favoritism or trust concerns, especially with power imbalances. Note to self, you date the boss and people will hate you.
Experts recommend understanding workplace policies and setting boundaries to protect both careers and relationships. Keep in mind to be careful when dipping the pen in company ink if you know what I mean.
