Travel can literally change your world experience and a study proves that improve our overall health. But traveling can also be incredibly expensive, like really expensive, with a recent Bankrate study finding that the average cost for a one-week vacation in the U.S. for one person is $1,984. Yikes

Bounce, a luggage storage company, is sharing the results of their study on the cheapest times to visit some of the most popular destinations in the world.

  • They started with a list of 70 popular tourist destinations, then used Kayak to find the average daily hotel cost for different months of the year and days of the week.
  • According to Bounce’s data, there are “clear seasonal trends when it comes to travel costs.”
  • They found that January is the cheapest month in 15 cities around the world, including London, Amsterdam and Berlin.
  • February comes in a close second, it’s the cheapest time to visit 12 cities, including New York, Paris and Milan.
  • As for the cheapest days to travel, Bounce reports that “contrary to popular belief, the data shows that Saturday is the cheapest day to stay in 17 cities,” including Las Vegas, Dublin and Milan.
  • Sunday, Friday and Monday are in a three-way tie for second place, as those are the cheapest days to travel to 10 destinations, like Barcelona, Rome and Miami.
  • As for the more expensive travel times, Bounce notes that winter and fall are pricier for destinations including Dubai and Phuket in Thailand, where rates are highest in December, while Athens, Lisbon and Barcelona see peak prices in September.
  • Overall, Tuesday is the most common day to be the most expensive, possibly because of business travel.
