Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have been keeping their engagement secret for longer than you may think.
In a new interview with Cleveland's News 5, the NFL star's father Ed Kelce shared some details about his son's proposal to the Life of a Showgirl musician, including that he actually popped the question "not quite two weeks ago," per People.
"He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event," he said. "And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event ... when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you."
According to E! News, Kelce asked the all-important question at his home after Ed said he "made a nice little floral garden around a gazebo" for the big moment.
"He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, 'Let's go out and have a glass of wine' ... they get out there, and that's when he asked her, and it was beautiful," Ed said, adding that the happy couple immediately shared the exciting news with their family.
After two years of dating, Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on Tuesday (August 26) with a joint post on Instagram, sharing sweet photos from the garden proposal as well as a close up shot of Swift's new massive Old Mine Brilliant Cut diamond ring co-designed by Kelce and Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry.
"Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨," she captioned the post.
Kelce reportedly even got the go-ahead to propose from his now-fiancée's father Scott Swift, Page Six reports. Ed revealed on a Tuesday podcast appearance that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end asked her dad "for permission" to marry her "probably a month ago."
