Living conditions in the United States can vary significantly depending on the region. Some locales boast high safety scores, fresh air, and dependable medical facilities, while others are riddled with crime, pollution, and a rise in obesity levels.

Although several factors influence mortality rates in the U.S., the overall life expectancy for an American citizen (78.6 years) has slightly decreased over the last three years (following decades of increase).

According to a list compiled by Senior Living, the average life expectancy of a person living in Texas from birth is 78.5. This number is slightly lower than the national average life expectancy.

The outlet mentioned that in 2025, heart disease and cancer "remain the biggest killers of Americans, combining to cause more than 40% of all deaths."

Here's what Senior Living had to say about compiling the data to discover the average life expectancy in each state:

"While the recent CDC report, which was released late in 2018, does not provide a breakdown of life expectancy by state, the Journal of the American Medical Association published a study in 2018 that examined life expectancy between 1990 and 2016. While those figures are now a few years old, they still provide a helpful baseline to understand where in the nation people live the longest (or shortest)."
