Finding affordable areas to live in can be stressful, but it is not impossible.
If you're willing to move just a short drive away from a big city, you're more likely to find an affordable area to live in. If you haven't done your research, you don't have to. HomeSnacks, a digital hub showcasing what it is like to live in different areas, released a list of the most affordable places in each state.
The report had some interesting facts to add about Michigan:
"Pure Michigan is one of the most affordable in the country, and you can find ways to save money with every season. For example, Michigan's yearly snow apocalypse lets you save money by providing snow for ice cream, ice for ice fishing, and eco-friendly snowmobile trails. Snow for snowball fights and snow angels is just an added bonus."
To find the cheapest places in the state, HomeSnacks looked at data from the 2015-2019 Census American Community Survey. The data consisted of three main components around income and costs:
- Median Home Price / Median Income
- Median Income / Median Rent
- Median Home Price
Here are the top 10 cheapest places to live in Michigan:
- Ishpeming
- Iron Mountain
- Alpena
- Flushing
- Bay City
- Menominee
- Owosso
- Wayne
- Springfield
- Center Line
