Ed Sheeran is happy staying earthbound.

During a recent radio interview, the Play singer revealed that he once turned down the chance to perform the "first gig in space" because the idea "terrifies me," especially given it's still a new concept for people outside of scientific and astronomical circles, E! News reports.

"I don't want to be a guinea pig for that, because it is still dangerous," he said, noting that there are incredible spots to perform on Earth that he has yet to see. "There's places on this planet that I haven't been to. I've never been to Greenland — I would love to go to Greenland. There's places on this planet I would far rather go to than space."

Sheeran added that he wouldn't want to chance something catastrophic occurring that would leave his kids without their father. The "Shape of You" musician shares daughters Lyra, 5, and Jupiter, 3, with wife Cherry Seaborn.

"I'm not going to risk that for a Guinness World Record something or other," he said. "I'm not going to risk my kids not having a dad."

While he's not interested in a space flight at this point in time, he did explain when he might take that cosmic trip, stating, "I want to go to space when it's like flying to France and 40,000 people have done it, and you can just book it online."

One artist who didn't have such qualms was Katy Perry, who famously boarded a Blue Origin flight to the edge of space in April and even sang a very fitting song for the occasion.

Ed Sheeran will be taking over the stage at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Festival presented by Capital One on September 19 and 20 in Las Vegas.
