Nominees for this year’s Golden Raspberry Awards were announced yesterday, and I think it’s safe to finally say it: The Razzies have jumped the shark.
They really don’t try to seek out the worst in film anymore…they just pick a handful of major studio releases they want to dump on, and then try to fit them into every single category.
For instance, this year’s Worst Picture nominees are “Transformers: The Last Knight,” “Fifty Shades Darker,” “Baywatch,” “The Emoji Movie,” and “The Mummy.”
Wouldn’t you know that almost every other category is dominated by these movies, and all five of them make up the Worst Screenplay category. It’s like the Razzies basically just exist to beat up on movies that annoy them. The Worst Screen Combo category is a perfect example of this. (As you’ll see below.)
The only category that these five movies don’t dominate is Worst Actress, where only Dakota Johnson from “Fifty Shades” represents. That one’s actually got an OSCAR WINNER in it: Jennifer Lawrence from “Mother!” And I bet she would show up to collect if she won. I bet they’d even rig it so she won if they knew she was coming.
Anyway, “Transformers” had the most nominations, with nine, while “Fifty Shades” got eight. Here are all the nominees…
